On Saturday, 11th May, Czech and Slovak fighters took part in two big tournaments. Six fighters took part in the IBJJF tournament, which took place in Paris. Another three took part in the SOLT 8 tournament in Poland.

IBJJF Paris Spring Open

Six of our fighters competed in Paris and our colours were most dominated by the duo of Martin Rapčan and Róbert Delič.

Pardubice Pretorian Martin Rapčan competed in the black belts in the Feather category. In the kimono, he managed to advance to the semi-finals, where he eventually succumbed to DreamArt's Florian Bayili. He then took 3rd place twice in No-Gi (first from his weight class and then from the absolute class).

Róbert Delič also shone. The IBJJF Europeans No-Gi brown belt silver medallist won his first gold medal at this IBJJF tournament, finishing all his opponents before the limit in No-Gi. He then finished second in Gi.

In the purple belts were three Czech representatives, Lucie Pudilova from SBG Ireland, Maikol Tallarini from Choketopus Gym and Michal Stolička from MODUS BJJ in Karviná. Lucie fought only in kimono and managed to win her weight class. She finished 2nd in the absolute category. Maikol managed to get through the quarterfinals in kimono, but unfortunately in the semifinals he was not able to keep up with the silver and bronze medalist from Europeans Malik Abdouraguimov. Michal Stolicka unfortunately lost his in the first round.

In the blue belts, Milan Petrik, the representative of Gladiators Gym from České Budějovice, also did well, dominating his weight class, both in Gi and No-Gi. Then Milan added a bronze medal from the absolute category in Gi.

So we can say that the Czechoslovak team did well at the IBJJF, collecting four gold, two silver and four bronze medals.

SOLT 8

Three Czechoslovak representatives and all from SWAG Brno. Petr Mynář won his purple belt category, finishing all his matches before the limit. In the PRO category he dropped out in the first match with Jakub Najdek.

It was also fatal for Jan Stach in the absolute category Jakub Najdek. Like Petr, Jan lost to him on decision. But Honza made up for it in his 85 kg weight class, where he finished the great Polish talent Pawel Jaworski before the limit in the semifinals. In the final he then lost 1-0 on points to take the silver medal.

Here you can see Stach's beautiful escape from the choi bar, which was put on him by Pawel Jaworski.

Linda Stach also competed in the women's category, finishing 4th in the 70 kg weight class. Interestingly, this division was dominated by Martyna Kapuścińska, who finished 2nd in the women's GALA at TATAMY 8. Second in this division was also the GALA and superfight participant Julia Mikołajczak. In the absolute cateogory Linda won the first match on submission, then unfortunately lost the second match 0:1 on points.

We should also mention Michal Travnicek's victory in the superfight at Rookie Rumble 8, which ended Milan Hanak's on twister.
